Summer’s flown by, the nights are already drawing in, and here at Cotswold Outdoor HQ we can’t help but get excited by the prospect of autumn and winter.
This season’s offering is better than ever, with a huge range of men’s clothing and kit from the very best outdoor brands. From stylish heritage down jackets to the very latest in technical waterproof protection, there really is something for everyone. Read on for a run down of our essential AW16 pieces, expertly picked by menswear buyer Sam…
Millican Smith the Roll Pack
“While it’s not reserved just for men, we had to include Millican’s Smith the Roll Pack in our top picks! Millican are a small company from the Lake District who make stylish, sustainable packs for the ‘conscious traveller, the deep-thinker, and for personal journeys across the globe’. ‘Smith’ is made from their Bionic Canvas – 57% recycled polyester and up to 30% stronger than regular canvas. It’s packed with cleverly thought-out pockets to keep you neat and organised – there’s a zipped laptop pocket to keep your laptop separate from the rest of your kit and close to your body for security, plus the main compartment of the bag is organised into smaller pockets. We also love the classic look of the Smith, which comes in two stylish colours including this great rust.”
Rab Nimbus Jacket
“Rab have nailed insulation yet again with the new Nimbus Jacket – a technical mountain jacket that’s completely feather-free. The Nimbus is filled with 203g of Cirrus, a synthetic insulator from Rab. Cirrus mimics the warming properties of natural down while continuing to perform in damp conditions – perfect for both a soggy British winter and more technical mountain activities.
Stitch through mini-baffles keep all the insulation in place, while a Pertex Quantum® outer fabric provides great durability. The Nimbus also has all the technical features you’d expect from Rab – including a helmet compatible hood, integrated stuff sack and zipped hand warmer pockets.”
Mountain Athletics Graphic Reaxion Amp Crew
“Back with a brand new collection for AW16, The North Face’s range of athleisure gear, Mountain Athletics, is once again packed with great prints, technical fabrics and bold colours. Updated for the new season, the Graphic Reaxion Amp Crew has a simple Mountain Athletics graphic on the front, in a cool blue colour. But don’t be fooled by the simple look and cotton-soft feel. This is a tee designed to perform as well in the gym as it will on the hills. Its lightweight, moisture-managing poly knit fabric will keep you cool while you’re working hard – perfect for any winter workout!”
Fjällräven Granit Shirt
“The Granit Shirt from Fjällräven is a classic lumberjack-style checked shirt, made from a heavy-weight flannel-wool blend with a button down front, double breast pockets, and the classic Fjällräven fox icon on the shoulder. It’s super warm, and looks great on its own or with a t-shirt or base layer underneath. Ever practical, Fjällräven have reinforced the shoulders with G1000 overlays so that you won’t see wear from your pack on your shoulders. You can even wax the shoulders for better water and wind resistance in the winter – perfect for drizzly conditions!”
Rab Hueco Cords
“The Hueco Cords from Rab have a super cool casual look that’s ideal for going from the climbing wall to the pub. They’re made from a stretchable blend of cotton, polyester and spandex in a needlepoint cord style, so they won’t hold you back on the wall. Plus articulated knees and a diamond gusset sewn into the crotch give you full range of movement. It helps that they look great too!”
Montane Surge Jacket
“This season, purveyors of fast-and-light clothing Montane have teamed up with GORE-TEX® for the very first time. The result? The Surge Jacket. Featuring GORE-TEX® C-Knit backer technology, the Surge is completely waterproof and super breathable, making it comfortable for all-day use in poor conditions even with just a base layer underneath. Clever details like its active mountain fit, articulated arms and technical tailoring allow this jacket to move with you during tough activities, so the Surge provides protection when you need it the most.”
Rab Sanctuary Jacket
“Part of Rab’s Escape Range, the Sanctuary Jacket is inspired by the mountains and hills, but designed to be worn every day. It’s got a retro, heritage style and comes in a stylish camo green with red accents. Perfect for chilly English winters, the Sanctuary jacket is filled with 260g of hydrophobic duck down, with a stitch-through baffle construction to keep all the insulation in place. Plus, Rab have also included a removable, adjustable hood and two generously-sized hand warmer pockets to keep you toasty warm all winter. To top it all off, the Sanctuary is completely Fluorocarbon free, so you’ll know you’re doing good as well as looking good!”
