We are a friendly outdoor activity group for people living in and around London. We are happy to welcome anyone who enjoys walking, cycling, exploring our countryside and other outdoor activities. The club is run by its members for its members. All members are welcome to organise events. We typically have around four to eight events every week. You are welcome to attend three events to try out the group; after that we ask that you join. The membership fee for one year is £15 for new members.
Many of our walks are on Saturday or Sunday. They are usually in the countryside and are easily accessible by train. A typical walk is about 10-12 miles (but distances can be anything from just a few miles up to 15 miles). We also have walks during the week and evening walks that often explore parts of London. There is no charge to come on our walks.
We have regular trips away for weekends and longer holidays. These go further afield than day walks – to National Parks, the coast or areas that are less easy to reach from London. We also have overseas trips; some of these are walking breaks and others focus on sightseeing. Trips away are run at cost (to pay for food and accommodation). We stay overnight in places that are cheap and can accommodate groups. Often these are youth hostels or independent backpacker hostels. Priority is given to paid-up members.
Other outdoor activities
As well as walking we offer regular bike rides and opportunities to try out other outdoor activities. This programme of taster events is called CLOGActive and includes activities such as zipwiring, ice skating, beachcombing, treeclimbing, watersports, horse riding and caving.
We also have an active social programme including monthly social evenings and visits to pubs, restaurants, exhibitions, plays and films.
