Our group was started by 2 members of the Edinburgh group, and we had our first walk in April 1987.
We are looking forward to celebrating our 30th Anniversary next year.
Membership has grown quite steadily over the years and we now have over 100 members. In all that time we have had only 3 Chairmen, the second person chairing the group for over 25 years!
We have two programmes of walks a year, a summer programme and a winter programme, and a good bank of leaders who lead the walks.
We are a very social, friendly group. We have two weekends away each year, and a few social events throughout the year
We also have a good working relationship with the East Lothian County Rangers, and some of our members join working parties to repair the area’s footpaths.
How the Club Works:
Our walks are graded depending on the amount of ascent, descent, gradient and terrain as follows:
- C Up to 7 miles/11 km at a leisurely pace on good paths and tracks. Low hills and/or undulating ground
- B Up to 10 miles/16 km moderately demanding with hills generally on tracks or paths at a moderate pace
- A Up to 15 miles/24 km steep ascents and descents often over very rough terrain at a demanding pace.
We have a walk on every weekend, usually on a Sunday when we car share. We have two meeting points, one in North Berwick and the other in Haddington.
